Voters from Precincts 43 and 43A have a new place to vote on November 6 – Webster Parish Fire Protection District 7 Fire Station #5 located at 11217 Hwy 80 west of Dixie Inn.

Anyone who voted at the old location – McIntyre Community House, 343 Old Hwy 80 – will now vote at the fire station.

On Election Day, signs will be posted and a person will be available at the old location to direct voters to the new location.

The location isn't only new to voters, the building was completed in the middle of October, according to WPFPD 7 Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Davidson.

"It's a little misleading when you say that," he said. "The shell was constructed several years ago. The offices, the training room, the kitchen, the bathrooms, they were constructed as a separate project than the building itself."

As a new building, Davidson said it is entirely handicap accessible.

"It meets all of the current ADA (American's With Disabilities) requirements," he said. "That is one of the primary reasons they chose us, because we are one of the newest buildings in the area that is public service oriented."

McIntyre Community House was condemned during a special Webster Parish Police Jury Meeting in September. The building had become infested with bats and rats according to WPPJ member Jim Bonsall, and attempts to remove the pests were unsuccessful.
