Showing his displeasure by firing a gun into the air got a Minden man in trouble with the law.
LaKeith Brewer, 33, of the 200 block of Martin Luther King Drive, is charged with illegal use of a weapon.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said he was on his way to work early Tuesday, when he heard the call of "shots fired" on Martin Luther King Drive.
"Lt. Seth Young was close to the area, so he arrived on the scene first where he made contact with a black male (Brewer) wearing a white shirt and a stocking cap, walking down MLK," Cropper said. "Lt. Young asked Brewer if he heard any gun shots, and he pointed down the road and said they came from that direction."
Police later learned that Brewer was the subject that discharged the gun.
"Lt. Young contacted him again, and apparently Brewer, who resided on MLK, was angry because his mother had been with her boyfriend and they had gotten into some kind of altercation," said the chief. "The boyfriend apparently had struck Brewer's mother in the mouth. When she came home and told Brewer, he got mad at the boyfriend, grabbed a .45 semiautomatic, went outside and fired seven shots into the air."
Police reportedly recovered seven spent .45 casings in the grass. Cropper said they located Brewer's .45 semiautomatic hidden in a laundry tub inside his bedroom.
Brewer was booked at the Minden Police Department and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
