Rainy conditions and mechanical failure led to a multi-vehicle chain reaction accident on Interstate 20 Saturday night. Both westbound lanes were blocked for more than 30 minutes. Alex Odom was driving a red Chevy Caprice with five passengers westbound on 1-20 when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle, coming to a stop facing the wrong way. Dr. Mohammad Alam, driving alone in a silver Mercedes 350, then reportedly was unable to avoid Odom's car, hitting it head-on.
Two other cars reportedly came upon the collision and attempted to avoid it. Ashley Dupree swerved her black Pontiac G6, avoiding the other cars but ending up in the ditch. Kayla Divelbiss, driving a black Honda Accord with one passenger, attempted to avoid the other cars, but struck Alam's car and ended up on the shoulder above Dupree's car. Minor injuries were treated at the scene.
