Minden High to host Parkway tonight

The Minden Crimson Tide will host the Parkway Panthers tonight in the Pit at W.W. Williams Field, as they attempt to get their first win of the season.

Parkway is 3-0 and has not been challenged in any game they've played this season.

"Overall, Parkway looks like the best team we've faced this year," Minden head coach Randy Peters said. "They are playing real well right now."

Peters said his team has its mind right and is focus on the task at hand.

"The kids have been working really hard," he said. "I think overall the attitude has been great. The kids have their sights on Friday and on district, and we're hoping to win one of these before then."

This is Minden's second of three straight games against 5A opponents. After next week's game against Ruston, the Tide will begin 1-4A district play.

The Parkway offense is led by dual threat quarterback Brandon Harris and running backs Demetrius McAtee and Brian McGuffee. Defensive linemen Antonio McGhee and Ron Battle lead a tough defense that has only given up 26 points in three games.

"Haughton was pretty good and had some athletes, but Parkway seems to have them as well," Peters said. "They have a big defensive line and a number of skill position players. Their quarterback really runs their offense well."

The Minden High offense bounced back last week against Haughton after two dismal weeks to begin the year. The Tide tallied 272 total yards on the night and had four backs near 60 yards rushing each.

"It was good to see the offense get untracked," Peters said. "It gave them a lot of confidence. They felt good about what they were able to accomplish. We certainly still made some mistakes, but it was an improvement."

Peters said the improvement started up front.

"I was really pleased with the way we played more physical on the offensive line," he said. "I thought our offensive line came off the ball well and attacked. And hopefully we'll see more of that Friday night.

Peters also hopes to see a sold out Pit supporting his team.

"I sure hope everyone comes out and supports us," he said. "I hope they support us as we make this trek through 5A and then get into district."

Game time is 7 p.m.
