DAR celebrates Constitution signing

The Dorcheat-Bistineau Chapter, NSDAR, met this month for their first gathering in the new year (2012-2013).

Present were new officers; Regent Jane Sistrunk, Vice Regent Janece Mourad, Secre- tary Zoe Brouhton, Chaplain Virginia Fox and Parliamentarian Carolyn Burton.

Other members present were Edith Bennett, Eugenia Bridges, Imogene Lindsey, Billie McCarthy and Sue Pearson.

Time was spent perusing the book "Harvesting Our History," recently printed to celebrate the first 115 years of the DAR in Louisiana. Summer workshop, future programs and State and National DAR activities also were of interest.

The program for this meeting was Celebrating the 225th Anniversary of the Signing of the Constitution of the United States.

Several members were pleased to learn new information concerning this time in our history. Janice Mourad was the presenter and evidence of her research and teaching skills was obvious.

Another item on the agenda was the potential membership of Linda Watson and Mary Beth Edwards. The vote was unanimous for their acceptance as soon as their final paperwork is complete.

Enjoying refreshments and each other's company was a pleasant way to end this first meeting. Our thanks go to St. John's Episcopal Church for the use of their Youth Building while the Library undergoes renovation.
