Due to the excessive heat in Louisiana during the month of August, National Night Out will be observed on Tuesday, October 9 from 6 until 9 p.m.
Registrations will be accepted, beginning immediately at Minden City Hall or by calling 377-2144.
Deadline for registering a party is Friday, October 5.
According to NNO coordinator Councilwoman Magalene Quarles, National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
"I encourage all citizens to make note of October 9 and make plans with your neighbors to host a block party on your street," Quarles said. "Fall is a beautiful time of the year in Minden and a great time to head outdoors to socialize with your neighbors."
Quarles said she will be reminding citizens of the National Night Out event and providing information in the Minden Press-Herald and through KASO radio during the coming weeks.
