Hunting seasons always begin with the doves

To be honest, it's a misnomer to call it dove "hunting". There's no hunting involved. The Saturday before Labor Day each year is something like a social gathering for camo-clad folks with shotguns who want to shake the dust and rust from not having anything to hunt since turkey season ended back in April.

If you're lucky, you get invited by a property owner who has legally prepared a field to attract doves. For the past several years, I've been blessed with an invitation from a friend and owner of a field he prepares for doves.
