SIBLEY —The Lakeside Warriors will open their 2012 season with a home game against Ringgold this Friday night.
"We're all excited," Lakeside head coach Joey Pesses said. "We're all ready to go and everyone is excited. The first home game is always a big deal."
Pesses knows his team will face a challenge with the Redskins.
"They are a really good team," he said. "They have a really good running back that they like to get the ball to, and they have a very athletic quarterback that can throw the ball. Offensively, they line up in a lot of formations, so you have to be lined up right, and defensively their linebackers are very aggressive."
Pesses said the Warriors have worked on their game plan for Friday night and they just want to go out and execute and limit their mistakes.
"Practice has been good this week," he said. "We went over the film from last week and then went out on the film and physically showed the kids how to fix our mistakes. The bad thing was we have four kids that were out with injuries, and that's bad in a normal situation, but it's a lot worse when that's a fifth of your team. But it's just an opportunity for the next player to step up and be a star."
Pesses was impressed with his team's effort last week, but would like to see improvement on both sides of the ball this week.
"We want to play better offensively this week," he said. "We just have to execute better. Defensively, Grambling made some big plays off tackle on us when we were out of position. So we went over that and stressed to them to line up right. But we don't want to limit their aggressiveness, because I really liked our effort last week in the jamboree."
