In a joint effort in sharing art and culture with the area, City Art Works and Cultural Crossroads have teamed up to offer "Hot August Nights," an art show and crawl.
"Everyone is excited to offer this opportunity to our local artists and area residents and visitors," said Pattie Odom,Minden Downtown Development Director. "Everyone will be able to see the extraordinary talent we have in this community and enjoy a stroll in downtown Minden."
"Hot August Nights" will be held Thursday, August 30, from 5 until 8 p.m.
"The show will feature local Minden artists' work displayed at City Art Works and along Main Street in businesses and windows as part of an art stroll," Odom said. "Everyone is invited to this free event. We are serving refreshments and great music will be provided. It is going to be an enjoyable way to spend the evening."
The event will feature more than 200 pieces of original art created by area young people who participated in Xpress Yourself Art Camp at City Art Works and Earth Camp at The Farm this summer.
Earth Camp, which is sponsored by Cultural Crossroads, aims to teach children the importance of recycling and to be good stewards of the land.
"The art is original, created by the students using natural materials and recycled goods," said Earth Camp Coordinator, Chris Broussard, who has been instructing the camp for more than 15 years. "We had more than 54 youngsters enrolled this year, ranging in age from six to 14, and all proceeds from Earth Camp go to support community projects at The Farm."
Artist Jeanne Mason coordinated Xpress Yourself Art Camp at City Art Works, which had more than 150 children enrolled for camp this summer with campers ranging in age from six to 16.
"Each age group was encouraged to express themselves," Mason said. "The art exhibit ranges from self-portraits to sculpture, and our focus was to teach the youngster to enjoy art."
City Art Works is the Cultural Recreation Program for the City of Minden and Cultural Crossroads is a non-profit organization and the official Arts Organization for Webster Parish.
