Back to School event set for Monday

A packed bus will deliver goods to the Back to School Bash, to be held Monday August 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Minden Civic Center.

"Minden residents showed their heart in a big way this past weekend," Back to School Bash committee person Ursula Hullaby said. "In spite of the heat the Pack-the-Bus was a big success."

Back to School Bash is an annual event that aims to supply Webster Parish students in need with a boost of self-confidence, as well as supplies and uniforms.

"We want the students to feel ready, prepared and confident," Hullaby said. "Our goal is to ensure that every student that is in need starts the school year equipped with essential school supplies so they are able to focus on their education."

The Back to School Committee wants all students in Webster parish to start school with haircuts, teeth cleanings, school supplies and back packs.

"The idea of going back to school can be overwhelming for many parents and children when it comes to the cost of supplies and uniforms," Hullaby said, noting an expected increase in the number of families in need this year.

Volunteers are still needed to help the day of the Back to School Bash, and the committee is still collecting supplies, donations and other contributions.

Sponsors are being sought at various donor levels ranging from $10 to $300, with incentives at each level. All donations are tax deductible under 501(c)(3) guidelines.

"We would like to thank all who gave at the Pack the Bus," Hullaby said. "The Minden residents were so gracious in their giving and the students of Webster Parish are so blessed to have people who care and support them.
