Apaches set to play first season under Greg Tibbitt
The Glenbrook Apaches will open fall practice and open their 2012 football season earlier than any other Webster Parish school.
The Apaches first practice day will be Monday, July 30, with their first game coming on August 17.
And they will be playing under a new coach, as the school hired Greg Tibbitt in January to replace the outgoing Ryan Porter.
Tibbitt says the Apaches having been working hard this summer.
"We've been in the weight room three days a week," he said. "And we've had real good attendance with our varsity players. We've had between 90 and 95% all summer long. We've even had a number of our younger guys, seventh and eighth graders, getting in there as well."
The Apaches haven't done any 7 on 7 work against other schools this summer, rather they have been working on installing the new offense Tibbitt intends to run.
"The offense is quite a bit different," Tibbitt said. "I guess the easiest way to describe it is that is the spread, but it's different than what they have been used to."
Tibbitt said the summer has been mainly used for running and lifting weights as well as learning the offense.
"We've done a lot of work learning the offense," he said. "Teaching the routes and the terminology, but mostly we've been running and lifting."
With the season quickly approaching, Tibbitt seems ready to get started.
"It's really almost too early," he said. "But I'm definitely ready to get going. And I'm sure the kids are ready to do something besides running and lifting weights."
