Beating the heat

Record-breaking temperatures are occurring more and more often, and high heat and humidity could potentially be deadly.

"Heat illnesses occur when the external temperature rises and your body's normal cooling functions like sweating are overwhelmed," Minden physician Dr. Joseph Nida said. "This is more likely to happen on hot, humid days and with intense physical exercise.

"I see several cases every month during the summer," he continued, "especially when football starts back."
