During Monday's city council meeting, Benton & Brown was awarded the bid on a city street improvement project that will span 16 roads inside the city limits.
The local company, which must meet all specifications, submitted a bid for $573,123.
Streets up for improvement include Chandler Circle, Chandler Street (Lewisville Road to Tillman Street), Chevrolet Street, Church Street, Cleveland Street, Commerce Street, Country Club Circle (Germantown Road to Drake Drive), District Street, Dixie Street (Sheppard Street to Hall Street), Ida Street, Joy Street, Peach Alley, Spann Street (Pennsylvania Street to Sheppard Street), Terrell Street, Tillman Street (Chandler Street to McArthur Street) and Wright Drive.
Also during their meeting, the council approved condemnation and demolition of the following properties:
202 Painter Street, Ethel Lee Burks – District B, in 45 days;
204 N. Talton Street, Eloise Moncrief Estate – District B in 45 days;
710 Moore Street – Curtis Mills, Jr. – District A in 90 days; and,
447 Walter Lyons Road – L.T. Rollen – District D, in 45 days.
Council members authorized Mayor Bill Robertson to appoint a curator for the listed properties:
Cadillac Street – Felton (Fulton) Dolphus Lewis 61/96 etals – District B;
606 Morrow Street – Johnnie B. Nivins – District B;
203 Cadilla Street – Larry Donell Moore – District B; and,
207 Bell Street – Vandrew Washington – District D.
