Man falls asleep at the wheel

Dave_ClaytonFalling asleep behind the wheel is dangerous, but when it happens in a store parking lot, it's sure to attract attention.

Dave Clayton, 34, of the 1400 block of Middle Road, was arrested for disturbing the peace (public intoxication), open container and possession of CDS Sch. IV (Klonopin) after a concerned store manager contacted Minden Police.

Chief Steve Cropper said Sgt. Ryan Barnette and Off. Chase Wimberly were dispatched to the parking lot of a Homer Road shopping center Sunday afternoon to check on a man who had reportedly been asleep in his vehicle for a couple of hours.

"Officers made contact with the driver – Clayton – who appeared to be somewhat intoxicated," Cropper said. "His speech was slurred and he had very little balance."

An open bottle of beer was reportedly observed in plain view inside the vehicle.

"Clayton was removed from the car and arrested," Cropper said. "During a search of the vehicle, officers located four Klonopin pills in the ash tray in the center console."

Clayton was booked at the Minden Police Department and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
