Brother John David 'J.D.' Harris

HARRIS_OBIT985J.D. was the fifth of 17 children born to the late Will and Rosie Richardson Harris on July 10, 1932.

He joined St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. Thomas.

J.D. united in holy matrimony to Irma Jean Ware on March 17, 1953. To this union six daughters were born.

J.D. was well known in the Doyline community. He was a talented carpenter, building St. Luke Baptist Church #1 in Ringgold, Fairview Baptist Church in Elm Grove, Key Stone Lodge Hall in Haughton and several houses. He was a gifted guitarist who played for The Spiritual Five Gospel Singers for several years. He served as president of the St. Mark Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon there as well.

He was preceded in death by the following: parents, Will and Rose Harris; daughters, Martha and Nellie Jean; brothers, Leon, Augusta, Cleo, Leo and Lloyd; sisters, Dorothy, Beatrice, Ineal, Martha and Queen Esther.

J.D. leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 59 years, Irma Jean Harris; daughters, Carolyn Cole (Dewey) of Doyline, Sharon Doyle (Mark) of Bossier City and Marilyn Gail Burt of Doyline; brothers, John Albert Harris of Doyline and Floyd Harris of Hercules, California; sisters, Bernice Holiday of Madisonville, Texas, Willa Owens of Reno, Nevada, Adele Woods of Sacramento, California and Margaret Turner of Doyline; grandchildren, Luther Amos, Jr., DeCarros Amos (Toya), Stacie Harris, Jaycen Herring, Jamie Jackson (Brandon) and Ashley Herring; great-grandchildren Asia, Isaiah, Braylyn, Jamiah and Jeremy; aunts Bertha Douglas of Haughton, Queen Esther Turner of Lincoln, California; sisters- and brothers-in-law Luler Harris, Rosie Larkins (Steavens), Jesse Ware and Lee Ware, Sr. (Mildred); special cousins, A.C. Douglas and Willie Brown; and a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins.
