Gregory (Greg) Scott Coker, Sr.

06-25_Coker"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy V.7

Greg was born March 6, 1963, son of Joseph (Joe) William Coker and Madeline Milner Coker in Minden. He departed this earthly life on June 22, 2012 and went to his Heavenly Home. He passed away in the Homer Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His mother said he never complained and never said, "Why me?"

The pearly gates opened wide, on streets of gold, he stepped inside. With outstretched arms welcoming him, Jesus, his daddy, and family embraced him then. The Heavenly Choir sang songs so sweet; our reunion with Greg is now complete.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Coker, his grandparents, Zeno William Coker and Johnnie Williams Coker of Columbia, Mississippi and William Hortman Milner and Gladys Calhoun Milner of Minden.

He left to cherish precious memories, his mother Madeline Coker, son Gregory Scott Coker, Jr. and wife Erica and granddaughter Kailyn Jo Elizabeth Coker of Kapolei, Hawaii, daughter Brittini Noelle Coker of Shreveport, and daughter Tristen Renea Coker of Minden, sister Debra Renae Jones and fiancé Rex Morgan of Hallsville, Texas and brother William (Cliff) Coker and wife Elaine of Shreveport. He has a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Also, his first wife, Sheri Whitfield and second wife Robin Coker.

Greg lived a happy and full life. He was always mischievous as a little boy and it carried over to his adulthood. He was always a prankster, joking and teasing, and never lost his impish smile.

Greg worked in the oilfields, and then he worked as a painter with his daddy, following in the footsteps of his grandpa Milner, great grandpa Milner, and uncles, James Calhoun, W. C. Calhoun, and Wallace Milner. He loved to hunt and fish with his friends. He and Faine Miller had show dogs and Greg won many awards for his dogs-especially Tiger. He enjoyed this very much.

The funeral will be at Rose-Neath Chapel on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10 A.M. Visitation will be Monday, June 25, 2012 (today) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Officiating will be Rev. Jim Crain and Rev. Don McCormick from Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where Greg was a long-time member of the church. Interment will be at Gardens of Memory in Minden.

"In my Father's house are many mansions...I go to prepare a place for you...that where I am, there ye may be also." St. John 14: Verses 2 and 3.

Pallbearers will be Dave Merritt, Faine Miller, Doug Jones, Joseph Coker, Jeff Meek and Bobby Lynn Griffie III.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Morgan, Mike Weems, Jewel Bonnette, Rod Dollar, Howard Morgan and Randy Gary.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Homer Hospital for the kind and compassionate care they provided to our beloved Greg. The doctors, nurses and the entire staff made him feel safe and comfortable and were so gracious to us. We appreciate everything.
