Man arrested for striking another in head with ax handle
A Dixie Inn man with an apparent ax to grind is in trouble with the law for causing injuries to a Minden resident.
Christopher Elkins, 20, of the 300 block of Front Street, Dixie Inn, is charged with second degree battery after reportedly striking another man on the head with a blunt object.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said the incident took place some time before 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
"Ofc. Chris Hammontree answered the call in the 300 block of Carey Lane," Cropper said. "He made contact with the victim who had a three-inch laceration on the back of his head. His lip was cut and he had scrapes on his knee."
Cropper said the victim's son told the officer his father was struck with an ax handle.
Cropper said Officer Shawn Jenkins and Hammontree took witness statements that concurred with the victim.
"The officers were able to locate Elkins and arrested him," Cropper said.
Elkins was booked at the Minden Police Department and is incarcerated at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
