Henry Lewis Lester

Henry_Lester623Funeral services for Henry Lewis Lester were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 6, 2012) at Minden Presbyterian Church, Minden, with interment following at Gardens of Memory.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Rose-Neath in Minden.

Henry was born Sept. 16, 1922 in Mars Hill, Arkansas to Henry Guilford and Hattie Stoy Lester and he passed away June 4, 2012.

At age 20, Henry joined the Navy and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, he returned to Minden and his job at the post office which he retired from on Jan. 31, 1981 as Assistant Postmaster. Henry and his wife, Susie Miller Lester, were married June 21, 1947. Henry was a member of the American Legion, Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Military Order of the Stars and Bars and was a great-grandson and grandson of a Confederate Veteran. He was a member and Elder of Minden Presbyterian Church. Henry was a Christian and a patriot.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hattie Lester and sisters, Helen Lester Norris and Sue Lester.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Susie Miller Lester of Minden; sons, Gary Lester of The Villages, Florida and Kevin Lester and wife, Sherie of Minden; daughter, Ginger Valentine of Monroe; grandchildren, Ryan Campbell and wife, Beth of Austin Texas, Diana Campbell Ortiz and husband, Derek of San Marcos, Texas, Megan Valentine Sharp and husband, Reggie of Monroe, Tara Valentine McMilleon and husband, Blake of Monroe, Eric Lester of The Villages, Florida, Elizabeth Lester of Gulfport, Florida, Justin Lester and Jacob Lester of Minden and Reagan Lester of The Villages, Florida. Great-grandchildren are Austin Ortiz, Ellie Campbell, Maggie and Izabelle Sharp and Kolton McMilleon.

Pallbearers were Hal Jackson, David Dumas, Jimmy Williams, Reggie Sharp, Ryan Campbell, Blake McMilleon, Justin Lester and Jacob Lester.
