Earnest Jefferson, Jr.

jefferson_obit951Funeral services for Earnest Jefferson, Jr., will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at Bethany Baptist Church at 7 p.m., in Queens, New York.

Earnest passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 following surgery of complicated health issues. He was a native of Doyline and a graduate of Webster High School Class of 1956. He migrated to Queens, New York in 1956 seeking better employment and business opportunities. Having had success as a food exchange employee, Earnest established, owned and managed a food catering service. This business continued until his health started failing, thereby forcing retirement.

A member of Bethany Baptist Church, Queens, New York for many years, his tenure of dedicated Christian fellowship, family devotion and the desire to achieve life goals were an extension of his home training. One of 15 children of the late Rev. Earnest Jefferson, Sr. and Wernder Sander Jefferson of Doyline, Earnest Jefferson, Jr., was readily recognized as a God-fearing person with leadership potential. He was elected a deacon and became chairman of Bethany Baptist Church Board of Deacons. The list of services and involvements are too numerous to mention.

In the processes of New York Life, Earnest met and married Betty Jones. To the marriage, three children were born. Betty preceded Earnest in death. The three children, Debra (I-Lar), Bernard and Jennifer (Michael) all currently live in Queens, New York.

Yes, we lost one of the team of three. The team of three older siblings that formed the "Gateway" for many of the younger siblings to achieve their educational dreams in the schools and universities in the South. The team of three, Ethel, Earnest, Jr. and Genetter Jefferson.

May God bless and keep all friends, loved ones and others.
