Mastering fear with art

High school students work with kindergarteners

Monday morning, Harper Elementary kindergarten students met for the first time their art mentors who had helped them learn that a new stroke of a paintbrush can brighten up a scary situation.

While James Croad's advanced art class at Minden High School (MHS) was studying the work of New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat they came up with a project that included kindergarteners and their fears.

While studying the works of the artist who died in the 1980s, they ran across the book, "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" written by Maya Angelou and illustrated by Basquiat.
