Springhill man now faces sentencing for aggravated incest
A Webster Parish District Court jury has found a Springhill man guilty of aggravated incest.
According to Webster Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin, Joshua Sinclair Vallo is facing a sentence of not less than 25 years or more than 99 years at hard labor for crimes against his stepdaughter who was eight when he was arrested.
At least 25 years of the sentence imposed shall be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
Vallo was indicted on July 19, 2010 on charges of aggravated rape and aggravated incest.
According to court records, Vallo entered a plea of not guilty on August 10 of that year and went to trial this week on the aggravated incest charge.
The Webster Parish District Attorney's office said jury selection began Monday afternoon and the trial began Tuesday. Jury deliberation took about two hours on Wednesday and the guilty verdict was handed down Wednesday afternoon.
John (Jack) Montgomery, prosecuting assistant District Attorney, said, "children are our most precious resource, and I'm glad we were able to get a guilty verdict."
Marvin said he is proud of the way his office handled the case.
"I am also proud of the Cullen Police Department's investigation into the crime against this child and grateful for the jury's service and diligent deliberation," he said.
Judge Parker Self presided over the trial and ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Sentencing has been scheduled for August 17, 2012. Vallo remains in the custody of the sheriff while awaiting sentencing.
The district attorney's office has not yet decided if they will pursue the aggravated rape charge.
