Warriors to play important district game at Sterlington
SIBLEY — The Lakeside Warriors hosted the Homer Pelicans in a doubleheader Tuesday at Sibley, with the home team sweeping both games.
The Warriors won the first game, 11-1 and then took the second, 27-0.
"We played well," Lakeside coach Bob Gray said. "Homer's not a bad team, they swing the bat pretty well. The second game just got away from them a bit."
In the first game, Austin Ashley improved his personal record to 2-0 as he went the first four innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Chad Basinger pitched the final inning.
Tyler Wallace and Luke Griffith each led the offense, ripping a double and a single each. Chase Woodall had two singles and Lance McGuire and Clayton Festavan both doubled. Payton Johnson tripled and Ashley, Dakota Shinall and Timothy Griffith all added base hits.
In the second game, Festavan went all five innings, allowing one hit and striking out six to get the win.
Timothy Griffith singled and homered and Luke Griffith had a home run. Woodall singled and doubled and McGuire singled and tripled. Colton White had two hits and Wallace tripled. Johnson had two hits and Basinger doubled. Shinall, Ashley and Cameron Corely added singles.
Now the Warriors look towards Sterlington.
"We have a big district game at Sterlington tomorrow," Gray said. "If we want a chance to win district, we need to beat them. We play three rounds with them, and they won the first one 1-0. If we can win tomorrow, we can set up a grand finale at our place next week."
Lakeside and Sterlington will play Thursday at 6 p.m.
