T.J. Carpenter and Tarus Erving honored by District 2-2A

Lakeside seniors T.J. Carpenter and Tarus Erving were recently named to the District 2-2A All-District Basketball Team.

Carpenter was named to the First Team and Erving landed on the Second Team. Carpenter was also named to the LHSAA Class 2A Second Team All-State.

Lakeside head basketball coach Jason Gould said both of the players were very deserving.

"It's a great honor for both of them," he said. "They were voted on by the other coaches in the district."

T.J. Carpenter, First Team All-District

""T.J. was the MVP for out team this year," Gould said. "And he just missed being MVP of the district by just a couple of votes. But in my opinion, he was the best player in our district."

Carpenter averaged 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Warriors in district play.

"We had some high expectations for T.J. coming into this year," Gould said. "And he met every one of them. He did everything he could to make our season successful. He played wherever we needed him, at guard, forward, handling the ball or posting up. He just did an outstanding job."

And as good as Carpenter was on the court, Gould said he could be even better off of it.

"I can't say enough good things about T.J.," he said. "We're very proud of him. He's been a starter since he was a freshman and he's always been a humble, high-character kid."

Tarus Erving, second Team All-District

"Tarus really came a long way in his career here at Lakeside," Gould said. "He grew and turned out to be about 6'5" and really learned how to use his size and his hands."

Gould said Erving really made himself into a great player at Lakeside. He averaged 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in district.

"He's not a great jumper or a great athlete," he said. "But he just learned how to play the game of basketball. I'm just so proud of Tarus for making All-District. It's a very good honor for him for all the hard work he did."
