Former Lady Tider reaching new heights on court

Earlier this month, Youree Drive Middle School's girls basketball team, defeated Vivian Middle School 37-33 to win the Caddo Parish Middle School City Championship game, completing the season with a 14-0 record.

Youree Drive is coached by former Minden High Lady Tider Jessica Gipson.

Gipson holds a remarkable 44-7 record over the past four years, including a 33-5 mark at Youree Drive.

Gipson's teams have won three League Championship titles (2009, 2011, 2012).

Gipson has also been selected for her second stint as the League I coach for the Caddo Parish Middle School Girls All-Star game to be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Caddo Middle Career and Technology School at 5 p.m. in Shreveport.

Gipson was a member of the Lady Tiders varsity basketball team from 1997 through 2001, and during that time, she helped lead the team to two consecutive undefeated District 1-3A championship titles and two playoff appearances, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 2001.

Gipson earned Second Team All-District honors as a junior and First Team All-District honors as a senior, averaging 16.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. She also was a starter in the 2001 LHSAA All-Star game at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Gipson completed her career at Minden High with 1,049 points and and continued on to compete at the collegiate level at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.

Gipson credits her successes both as a player and coach to the discipline, support and guidance of her parents, Larry and Brenda Gipson, and also her former coach and mentor, Wesley Charles.
