Graveside services for Bobby R. "Bob" Parker will be held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, March 12, 2012) at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Officiating will be the Rev. Leon Boggs. His family received friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Parker was born in Minden Oct. 22, 1932. He was raised in Ringgold and graduated from Ringgold High School in 1950. He then attended Louisiana Tech, and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree. While at Louisiana Tech, he was inducted into the national honorary fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa. He was also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After college, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. During his school years, he was especially proud to have played baseball for Mr. Larry Hunter during the summers of 1948 and 1949 in Minden.
Mr. Parker began his insurance career with General Adjustment Bureau in Minden in 1956, and later was manager of offices in Hope, Arkansas, Vidalia and Tallulah. He was employed by Querbes and Nelson in 1966, and retired about 33 years later. He served on the Webster Parish School Board for sixteen years. He was president of that board for four of those years. He was a member of Pine Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf for many years. He was an active member of Lakeview Methodist Church.
His mother Clotiel Watson Parker Houston, and father Ovid Veer Parker preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Boles Parker of Minden; son, Lewis R. Parker of Minden; daughter, Elizabeth LaRue of Dale, Texas; son, Chuck Gautney and wife, Linda of Haughton; and daughter, Julie Hunter. Seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special niece, Susan Branch, also survive him.
