North Webster sweeps through tournament

HAYNESVILLE-The North Webster Knights continued the hot start to their 2012 baseball season as they improved their record to 9-0 with three wins over the weekend in the Haynesville Tournament.

Although the tournament was pool play, the Knights were the only team to go undefeated as they racked up a 4-0 record in the tournament Friday, Knights defeated Doyline 15-0.

Gunner McEachen started the game for the Knights before being relieved by James Michael Boots. Together, they combined to no-hit the Panthers.

Cody Roton led the offense with a two-for-two day which included a home run. Tate Smith singled and doubled and Cole Gray had two singles and a double. Gunner McEachen singled and doubled, Brayden Howard had two hits and Baley Baker added a base hit.

Saturday, the Knights defeated state-line rivals from Taylor, Arkansas, 9-3.

Tate Smith pitched all seven innings to pick up the win. He also went two-for-three with a single and a double. Matt O'Neal added a pair of doubles and Dylan Modisette singled and doubled. Baley Baker, Cody Roton, Renaldo Morris, Cole Gray, Gunner McEachen, and Brayden Howard all added base hits for the Knights.

In the nightcap, North Webster defeated Haynesville 15-1.

Cole Gray pitched a complete game and picked up the win. Gray also went two-for-four at the plate with a home run and a double. Matt O'Neal went three-for-four with a double and a home run, and Cody Roton doubled and homered. Dylan Modisette singled and doubled and Brayden Howard went three-for-three with two doubles. Taylor Murphy, Ryan Stroud, and Gunner McEachen all added base hits for the Knights.
