"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing anymore, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men." Matthew 5:13 NASB
In Jesus's day, salt was used mainly as a preservative to keep food, especially meat, from spoiling.
Thus believers are to act like salt that keeps sin from corrupting and spoiling the world. Salt also was used as medicine to cleanse wounds and promote healing. Thus believers are to influence others to be spiritually healed through the saving, cleansing power of Jesus Christ the Lord. Salt was often worthless because it was diluted by other minerals and chemicals. Therefore believers are not to be contaminated by sin that compromises the Kingdom's work.
Lord Jesus, help me to be pure and holy so I can be effective as salt. Help me to exert a positive influence that makes a difference in my world today.
