Ms. Evelyn was born on August 21, 1920 in Jamestown and passed away on Feb. 21, 2012.
"Mama Eb," as she was affectionately known by all of her family, led a very full life. She was a very loyal and faithful member of Jamestown Primitive Baptist Church where she played the piano for more than 50 years.
Ms. Evelyn enjoyed writing, being outdoors, especially fishing, and was a gifted artist and musician. She was a resident of Ringgold Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past five years and took great pleasure in writing the weekly article "From Ringgold Nurse Care" in the Bienville Democrat. Above all, "Mama Eb" was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and the memories made throughout the past years will be cherished forever.
Ms. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hammett; her parents, Stephen and Permelia Woodall; all of her nine siblings; her son-in-law, Lynn Ross; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Hammett.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Max Hammett and his wife, Tina of Doyline, Ted Hammett of Castor, Faye Ross of Coushatta, Judy McCarthy and her husband, Mike of Castor and Jan Huckaby and her husband, Roger of Ringgold; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael McCarthy, Jason McCarthy, Stephen Ross, Brian Ross, Keith Hammett, Nathan Hammett and Brandon Huckaby. Her great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
