MARKS, MS. — The Glenbrook Apaches are set to begin the MAIS State Playoffs on Wednesday at Delta Academy.
"First, let me say that it is an honor to be here in Marks and about to play in our first State Playoff game," Apache head coach Chris Kourvelas said. "I felt a huge sense of excitement in our school's community this past week and especially this weekend. The State Tournament means a lot to our players, our schools, perhaps even our community in Minden."
The Apaches took the South A State Tournament over the weekend at Claiborne Academy.
The Apaches will take on DeSoto at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
"DeSoto has a team that is very physical and play very physically tough.," Kourvelas said. "First thing we have to do is to remain calm and composed. They have a few good rebounders that will attack the board when shots go up. Therefore, it will be important for us to recognize that and to box out and get the guy to go over us to draw a foul.
Kourvelas said his team is focused and ready.
"We are not taking them lightly," he said. "There have already been a couple of upsets here in Marks, and we definitely do not want any part of that. We have come too far in our season to get upset and go home after the first game.
