Philora 'Phil' Hull Ownbey


Funeral services for Philora "Phil" Hull Ownbey, 86, were held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at 3 p.m. in Trinity Worship Center, located on Academy Lane, Springhill, with the Rev. Tommy Brown officiating. Interment followed in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.

Visitation was held Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home.

Phil was born August 31, 1925, the youngest of 11 children, to John and Rosa B. Kottenbrook in Farmerville and departed from this world Feb. 15, 2012 peacefully in her home after a lengthy illness.

After marrying Jon E. Hull in 1946, they moved to Springhill and established Hull Furniture and were in business there for more than 50 years as well as Mademoiselle Ladies Apparel and was there for more than 40 years.

They were members of Central Baptist Church for many years where they served in many capacities and established many lifelong friends. Later, they became charter members of Trinity Worship Center and became instrumental in establishing the Christian Academy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 56 years, Jon E. Hull in 2002.

Many years later she married a former sweetheart, from her early adult years, James Ruel Ownbey of Cleveland, Tennessee. He also preceded Phil in death in November of 2010.

Phil and both husbands served our Dear Lord and Savior faithfully and touched many lives over the years.

She is survived by daughter, Jonette Ruth Hull Garrett and husband, Mack of Florida; chosen daughter, Sherri K. Thurman and husband, Mike; granddaughter, Amanda; grandson, Jon, all of Springhill; godchild, Anna Nickerson Frye and husband, Matt and daughter, Tynlee of Bossier City; stepdaughter, Jennifer Link of Virginia; stepsons, Rudy Ownbey and Jimmy Ownbey; their wives, children and grandchildren of Cleveland, Tennessee; and number of nieces and nephews.

Phil had two very special friends, Reba Robinson and Jean Florey who have also preceded her in death.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Serving as pallbearers were Ricky Kottenbrook, Don Kottenbrook, David Kottenbrook, Jake Kottenbrook, Brandon Kottenbrook, Cory Kottenbrook, "R. P." Ricky Pace, Lamar Ogburn, Dakoda Maples and Don Rhodes.
