Library to showcase event for public
Ready to jump into the world of digital books?
Webster Parish Library will hold a Digital Media Event beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday February 25 at Minden Main Branch. The five-hour event will showcase the library's available digital resources.
"We've had a lot of people come into the library wanting to have their devices set up to receive content from our OverDrive website," WPL Technical Assistant Janetta Robinson said. "I thought if we had an event that it would be helpful and we could do it all at one time."
The event, which is free of charge, is limited to 15 people and enrollment is required. If enough interest is generated, Robinson said additional future events would be held.
She said participants should bring their devices, a laptop if possible and whatever cables they may need to transfer books. Devices include the Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo, iPad and other such e-reader or portable device.
"If you have a tablet computer then you won't need cables or a laptop," Robinson said. "Just bring the device."
The first portion of the event runs from 10 a.m. to noon and will cover the digital resources available through the library and how to access and utilize them.
"The first couple of hours we're going to look at our OverDrive website," Robinson said. "Show you how to do a search, how to find content on the site. Then I'll show how you can log in and start checking out titles."
Two other resources will be covered: EBSCO, which is a useful tool for research projects and papers; and Britannica E-Books, which are read directly in a web browser.
After an hour lunch, the second portion begins at 1 p.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. Participants will then receive help configuring their devices for access to library resources.
Registration for the event may be done by signing up in person at Minden Main Branch or by calling Robinson at 371-3080 extension 26.
