Mary Nell Daniel Myers

Mary_Myers_pic_for_TimesMary Nell Daniel Myers (1932-2012), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a 79-year resident of Castor, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012. Services, officiated by the Rev. D.L. Daniel, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Castor.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m. today (Thursday, February 16, 2012).

Mary was born in Castor March 7, 1932. In high school, Mary excelled in basketball and had the honor of playing on the Allstate Girl's Basketball Team. Mrs. Myers graduated from Northwestern State University with a Master's Degree +30 and went on to teach school for more than 20 years. She particularly enjoyed teaching special needs children and coaching the Special Olympics. Mary was an active participant in the Castor Historical Society, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and she was a faithful leader for the Women's Ministry at Castor Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dyrel and Mabel Daniel; brothers, Billy Ray and Ronnie Daniel; and her son Thomas Edward Myers.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Sidney Myers of Castor; her daughter, Sharon King and her husband, James "Mickey;" daughter, Marilyn Moore all of Shreveport; sons, Danny Myers and his wife, Stephanie of Colleyville, Texas, John Myers and his wife, Martha of Mesquite, Texas; daughter, Debra Myers of Castor; her dearest sisters, Sue Adams and Ann McGee of Shreveport; and sister-in-law, Nancy Daniel Dusang of Bossier City.

The loves of her life were her six grandchildren, Melanie Parent, Johnathan Myers, Lauryn Parham, Judd Myers, Janelle Eastwood, and Meredith Myers; and great-grandchildren, Clairie and Addie Parent.

Pallbearers will be Johnathan Myers, Judd Myers, Landon Parham, Craig Parent, Mickey King and Ricky Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grace Home, 1035 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101.
