P&P visit nets narcotics

Kevin_HarrisTania_KennonProbation and Parole officers checking on a new parolee scored a major drug bust.

Tania Kennon, 35, of the 2100 block of Shepherd Street, Gibsland, is charged with felony second offense possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana), CDS Sch. IV (Xanax) and placed on hold by Probation and Parole.

Kevin Harris, 40, of the 1200 block of Cotton Street, is charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (cocaine) with intent to distribute, possession of CDS Sch. IV (Xanax), possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possession of CDS Sch. II (Endocet).

According to Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper, P&P officers went to a residence on Cotton Street to check on a new parolee, and called police when they couldn't get anyone to answer the door.

"Agents Blair Lebel, Amy Russell, Renee Davis and Carson Cowant could see people looking out the window, but not answering, so they called us and requested an officer," Cropper said. "By the time Officer 1st Class Joel Kendrick and Sgt. Ryan Barnette arrived, they had let probation and parole agents inside, and they had noticed some marijuana laying around in plain sight."

While the person whom agents were originally there to check on wasn't at home, Kennon, also a parolee, was at the location giving agents probable cause to search.

"Probation and Parole searched the residence, along with our officers and Lt. Dan Weaver and Capt. Marvin Garrett," Cropper said. "They seized approximately 298 grams of suspected marijuana, two grams of powder cocaine, five Xanax pills, an undetermined number of Endocet pills and $2,200 cash."
