Closed primary upcoming

Voter registration closes February 22

Webster Parish and the state of Louisiana will participate in a closed party primary election for President of the United States on March 24.

According to parish Registrar of Voters Melanie Smith, that means anyone not registered to vote, has just over a week to do so.

"We want to be sure as many as possible are aware that the upcoming election is a closed party primary election," Smith said.

Close of registration is February 22.

"That's the last day to register to vote, change your address, party or name to be effective for the March 24 primary," she said.

Early voting dates are Saturday, March 10 and Monday, March 12 through Saturday, March 17 from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily in the Registrar's Office, Webster Parish Courthouse, 410 Main St., Minden.

In the northern end of the parish dates are Saturday, March 10, Monday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 13 at Springhill Civic Center, 101 Machen Dr. Springhill from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

"I strongly encourage the voters to check their party affiliation prior to the close of registration, February 22," Smith said.

Voters may check their information at www.geauxvote.com or by calling the registrar's office at 377-9272.
