Company donates computers

The technology lab at Glenbrook School has received a fresh set of computers, through a grant from Encana Oil and Gas (USA), Inc.

Sixteen refurbished computers, donated by Encana, along with new monitors, software and educational applications are now up and running inside the school's technology lab.

Students in grades K-12 will have access to age-appropriate software and resources to conduct research, collaborate and communicate with peers and experts.

Students preparing for college will now gain experience in the latest Microsoft Office programs and have access to resources for college research, SAT and ACT preparations and college applications.

Elementary age students will engage in weekly computer enrichment labs that give them a head start on basic computer skills.

According to Glenbrook Headmaster Darden Gladney, an application for the grant was submitted by Marrium Khan, one of Glenbrook's technology instructors.

"Encana likes to work with schools where they are doing work and also where their employees' spouses work or where their employees' children attend," Gladney said. "Marrium Khan's husband is an engineer with Ecana."

Gladney continued that the computers are an excellent opportunity for Glenbrook's students. "We have a lot technology in the school but you can never stop," he said. "You have to keep working on it (technology) because you can not get on top of it."

"Our goal," Khan said, "is to help students learn how to use technology to captivate, motivate and move forward in today's learning

"The donation from Encana will allow students and teachers to connect with information and technology as a way to learn and engage in powerful, evolving areas of study."

As the importance of computer literacy continues to grow, Encana sees these donations as a way to step in and fill a community need, while at the same time helping to grow a stronger future for Louisiana students.

"Technology has become such an important part of our lives, education and jobs," said Steve Short, group lead, North Louisiana field operations for Encana. "Encana is proud to be able to jump in and provide updated computers and equipment for our future leaders and decision makers."

Encana Corporation is a leading North American unconventional natural gas company operating in the United States under its subsidiary, Encana Oil & Gas (USA), Inc. (Encana) and coordinates its operations from its U.S. headquarters in Denver.
