A common problem we as Christians have is mistakenly thinking we're demonstrating Christian love to another when in reality we're showing inappropriate indulgence and enabling of irresponsible behavior. We don't always have clear boundaries regarding responsibility, our own and that of others. (A recommended Christian book on the subject is Boundaries by Henry Cloud and John Townsend) For example, The Bible clearly states that "whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" Galatians 6:7. Though sometimes painful or difficult, it is both correct and necessary for healthy maturation that we experience the consequences of our behavior. Too often a well meaning parent or friend prevents that from happening by paying the speeding ticket, bailing one out, doing neglected work for the other, etc., which robs the other of an experience for growth.
