Funeral services for Kenny McGowan will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Crider.
Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012) at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Kenny was born May 21, 1951 in Shreveport and entered into rest Jan. 8, 2012 in Shreveport. Kenny was awarded the Red Cross Certificate of Merit Presidential commendation from President Ronald Reagan for saving a gentleman's life. He was captain of the sniper team and leading police firearms instructor for the Kansas prison system to include federal penitentiaries and the United States disciplinary barracks. During his law enforcement career, he personally developed methods of training bloodhound tracking dogs, attack, narcotics and cadaver dogs with the Kansas State Prison system, and this method has become common practice that is used nationwide.
He is survived by his father, Kenneth Dean McGowan and mother, Betty McGowan of Minden; son, Jason Dale McGowan and wife Naomi of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughters, Samantha and Amanda Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; brothers, Jeff McGowan of Minden, Mickey McGowan and wife Frances of Minden and Rickey McGowan of Minden; and grandchildren, Reghan and Ty McGowan.
Pallbearers will be Connie Mack Martin, Garrett McGowan, Kerry Ellington, Mike McGowan, Johnny Benton and Tracey Thomas.
