Ruth Duval Turner

On Jan. 6, 2012, in Minden, Ruth Duval Turner moved on to be with the Lord, after an illness that led to the end of her full life of 92 years.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 72 years, George Turner; her daughter Georgena Lyle; her son Tommy Turner; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born in Arkansas in March 1919, Ruth met George in Minden where they were married in 1941 before he entered the U. S. Army during World War II. Ruth supported herself and her son with various jobs during the War, including a sales position at West Bros. Department Store in Minden. After the war, she was a lunchroom worker at Richardson Elementary School, a bookkeeper at Fincher Furniture and, finally, for 25 years was the deputy tax assessor for Richard Garrison at the Webster Parish Tax Assessor's Office, from which she retired in 1983.

Throughout these years, Ruth was a faithful member and volunteer at Minden First Baptist Church in various educational programs, including Sunday school, Homebound Ministry, R.A's., WMU and Town & Country Nursing Home programs, until her health prohibited continuation of this service.

Funeral services were conducted by the Reverends Leland Crawford and Bill Crider at First Baptist Church Sanctuary at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. Visitation was held in the Sanctuary Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment followed at Minden Cemetery.
