BASTROP—The Glenbrook basketball teams split a pair of varsity games with Prairie View Academy in Bastrop as they completed their pre-Christmas schedule on Tuesday.
The Apaches beat the Spartans, 71-54 and the Lady Apaches fell to PVA, 62-24.
Zach Specht and Wesley Hicks turned in double-doubles to lead the Apaches to the win.
Specht scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Hicks had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Devin James added and Cade Spurlock each added 18 points.
Glenbrook head coach Chris Kourvelas was not completely happy with the way his team played.
"We came away with a win today, yes, but I, along with the coaching staff were not pleased," he said. "Our shooting effort was fantastic (83% from FT and 60% overall is great), but we lacked effort on the defensive end. Some people may question if playing a late game last night on the road, then turning around and playing an afternoon game had something to do with it."
Kourvelas said his team would have to deal with back to back games if they make the post-season.
"Our guys have to realize a couple of things," he said. "One, if we are lucky enough to make it to post-season play, there may be a time or two when we have to play two games in 24 hours or less. We must remained focused on both ends of the court, our guys have to listen to what we are asking them to do and execute it properly....otherwise we will get beat. Two, we have to learn to win without one or maybe even two of our guys...whether it be due to an injury or foul trouble or whatever the case may be. But overall, I am very pleased with what our team has accomplished so far in the season. However, we still will continue to work on things."
The Lady Apaches fell behind early and were never able to recover as they lost, 62-24.
Kate Tracy and Lauren Sims had seven points apiece as the Lady Apaches fell to 4-8.
