SPRINGHILL—Lakeside and North Webster High Schools closed out their pre-holiday schedule with a pair of varsity games in Springhill.
In the girls' game, the Lady Warriors jumped out early and then withstood a Lady Knight rally to pull out the 47-40 win. In the boys' game, North Webster used consistent scoring in every quarter to take the 60-40 win over the Warriors.
The Lady Warriors used a big first quarter to build up an early lead on the Lady Knights.
"We jumped out to a 17-3 lead early, and that was a big momentum swing for us," Lady Warriors head coach LaDarien Amos said.
North Webster began to chip away at the lead and eventually took a fourth quarter lead, before the Lady Warriors regained the lead and held on for the win.
"After the first quarter, North Webster closed it down some," Amos said. "The lead was never in risk until the fourth quarter when they took the lead. But we were able to come back and get the win."
Shanae Collins led the team with 18 points and Tamera Douglas scored 11. Zakariah Jenkins added eight points.
The Warriors trailed the Knights 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and 30-23 at the half. North Webster out-scored Lakeside 30-17 in the second half to close out the game.
T.J. Carpenter led Lakeside with 15 points and Tarus Erving and Rontrell Kinsey each scored eight.
Montavious Smith led North Webster with 23 points and Rico Germany scored 21.
