Funeral services for Jesse D. McDay Sr. will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at 14th District Building.
A wake will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today (Friday, Dec. 16, 2011) at Benevolent Funeral Home Chapel.
Jesse D. McDay Sr. was born on April 23, 1936 to Mr. Hodge and Vinnia McDay in Sibley.
At an early age, he joined Church of God and Christ.
In 1954, Jesse entered the United States Air Force. After serving four years in the Air Force, Jesse married Mary Mayfield-McDay in 1958. He continued his service in the military where he traveled many states and fought in the Vietnam and Korean War. He was honorably discharged after serving 20 plus years.
After returning home from the Air Force, Jesse went to work for the VA Hospital (Overton Brooks Medical Center) where he later retired.
He was a Deacon at Holmes Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ until his passing early Thursday morning, Dec. 8, 2011.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, James and Nathan; five sisters, Martha, Hattie Mae, Ola, Esther and Naomi; and one daughter, Valeria McDay.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary McDay; three sons, Jesse (Rosa), Joseph and Elonzo (Lesia); one sister, Miriam Adams; six grandsons, Adrian, Chivalous, Tristan, Elanzo Jr., Joseph II and Brandon; one granddaughter, Shaquille McDay; two great-grandchildren, X'Zavion and Londynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.Subscribe to Read!
