Worker arrested for debit card use

Crystal_Chatman_2_9-27-90A convenience store employee took advantage of a forgetful patron to the tune of more than $260 after that person left a debit card at the store.

Crystal O. Chatman, 21, of the 1500 block of Fuller Road, was arrested by Minden Police on a warrant for forgery and unauthorized use of an access card.

Police Chief Steve Cropper said Chatman made six different transactions with the card.

"Chatman was working at the store when a customer pulled up and got gas," Cropper said. "That person either dropped the card or set it on top of the pump and left it."

During the interview, Chatman reportedly said she got the card off the counter inside the store.

"It's possible someone found the card and brought it in the store, and that's when she got it off the counter," said the chief. "Either way, it wasn't her card to begin with."

Chatman is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on a $10,000 bond.
