Jason Fory, 26, of the 600 block of Fuller Road in Sibley and Christopher Palmer 26, of the 3900 block of Prairie North in Gonzales were charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine) and drug paraphernalia.
According to Police Chief Steve Cropper, Officer Danny Turner was on routine patrol when he noticed two men in a breezeway near the lobby of a local motel.
"Officer Turner made a loop and went in the lobby to check on the motel clerk," Cropper said. "The clerk was fine, but when he (Turner) came back out of the motel, he saw the same two men in the parking lot, acting suspiciously."
Cropper said Turner observed the two men walk over to a truck in the parking lot.
"As he started easing toward them, they began to back up," Cropper said. "One was trying to create distance from the officer."
The chief said Turner exited his patrol car and told the man to stop.
"The officer asked the men what was going on, and they both had different stories," Cropper said. "So, Officer Turner asked for a back-up unit, and Officer 1st Class Chris McClaren and Officer Chase Wimberly went out to back him up."
When interviewed, Cropper said the men's stories continued to conflict until asked about their room.
"Both of them gave the same room number, so the officers asked permission to search the room," said the chief. "Once inside the room, they found crack cocaine and a couple of crack pipes."
A criminal history check on Palmer reportedly showed he is on paper with Probation and Parole. A hold was placed on him.
Both men were taken to the Minden Police Department, booked and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
