Though we live in widely separated parts of the country, I come from a close family. We just enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving reunion in Tucson, Arizona. The specialness continued as my older sister and her husband spent several days with us here in Minden. While I am not apologetic for coming from a close and loving family, I realize that many have not experienced such a blessing. For those of you who fall into this category, I encourage you to believe in the possibility, dream of a perfectly loving family, and realize that that is exactly what God has for you even if not experienced in your earthly family.
The God of the universe wants us to embrace Him as Father! Is that amazing or what! "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven" Matthew 6:9. It is obvious that Paul loved his sonship to God. Repeatedly he began his epistles with peace from "God our Father" (See Romans 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:3 as examples).
Our Father God likewise is eager to call us His children. In Romans 8:14-17 we read "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." We find this idea again in Galatians 3:26, 29 "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. . . .And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."
To receive Jesus, His life and will in my life, is to become part of His family. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" John 1:12. This family includes not only us mortals here on earth, but heavenly kin. "For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named" Ephesians 3:14, 15. Just imagine the celestial family reunion that awaits! See you there!
