Estalene Hemphill Monzingo

Funeral services for Estalene Hemphill Monzingo, 64, will be held Friday Dec. 9, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. The Rev. Robert McGaha, her longtime friend and classmate from Pioneer High School, will officiate. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 159, in Minden. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday Dec. 8, 2011 at Rose-Neath.

Esta was born July 13, 1947, to Quentis and Ruby (Hales) Hemphill in Darnell. After a heroic battle against cancer, she died at home on Dec. 5, 2011, surrounded by her family. Her parents preceded her in death.

Esta will be remembered for her love of life and family, She loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations across the country when her boys were growing up. She loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She loved the changing seasons and holidays, particularly Christmas with its festivities and her family around her. She especially loved being with her grandchildren. She enjoyed and took pride in her work. For the last ten years, she was employed at Republic Services in Dixie Inn as an office administrator. She was a loyal friend and loved by all who knew her well.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years, Larry Monzingo of Minden; son Scott Monzingo of Minden; Chris Monzingo and wife, Denise of Tallahassee, Florida; three granddaughters, Ashley, Madison and Ryleigh Grace Monzingo; six sisters, Joann McMorris of Monroe, Lynette Michel and husband, Gasper, of Metairie, Bonnie Ford of Monroe, Verdine Holder and husband, John, of Shreveport, Maurene Sims, of West Monroe, and Jerene Davis and husband, Roy, of West Monroe; Ashley's mother, Vivian Compus of Bakersfield, California; and many nieces, nephews, and family members.

Pallbearers are John Holder, Billy Ray, Roy Davis, Jerry Monzingo, Sammy Simpson, and Alfred Rawls.

Honorary pallbearers are Gasper Michel, Phillip Baker and David Monzingo.

The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Neelima Chintapali and the staff at Christus Schumpert Cancer Center in Shreveport for the loving care they provided Esta. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
