Glenbrook tops LSM&S

The Glenbrook Apaches hosted the Louisiana School of Math & Science Monday night and pulled out a 55-32 win.

"We played really good team basketball tonight," Glenbrook head coach Chris Kourvelas said. " Much better from last night's performance against Riverdale. We had 13 total assists, we worked together as a team and fought hard. We did some really great things defensively, such as creating about 30 turnovers, 22 of them coming of steals."

Zach Specht led the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Wesley Hick added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Newcomer Terez "Mookie" Mack added nine points and six steals and four assists in his first game with the Apaches. Cory Walker had six points and eight rebounds and Cade Spurlock scored four points and pulled down seven boards.

Glenbrook led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to 29-12 at the half. The Apaches then out-scored their opponent 26-20 in the second half for the 55-32 win.

"Our newcomer to the team, Mookie turned in some good minutes for us," Kourvelas said. "As well as Specht, Wesley, Spurlock, Cory and Austin Palmier all of who contributed to rebounding or great defensive pressure or seeing the open man for an assist on a basket."

Kourvelas did see some things his team needs to work on.

"The coaching staff and I were not completely happy with our shooting percentage.," he said. "We went 38% from the line, which is totally unacceptable, and we did not make a three all night and took 10. We must get better from the outside and definitely get better from the line...that is something (free throws) that can be the big difference between a win or a loss. We also had a couple of mental breakdowns, but again- it is only November, we have a few things to work on and work out the kinks."
