Dorothy Brown Bertrand

Dorothy_BertrandFuneral services will be held for Dorothy Brown Bertrand, 86, in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Teat, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Weldon Cemetery near Bernice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m.

Mrs. Bertrand was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Bernice to Joel Augusta Brown and Fannie Bays Brown. She entered into rest Tuesday, November 29 in Homer following a short illness. Mrs. Bertrand was a member of First Baptist Church of Homer and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Bertrand was preceded in death by husbands, W.N. "Bill" Mays and Sherman Vega Bertrand; great-grandson, Connor Simpson; and great-niece, Jennifer Pender. She was the youngest and last of 13 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Reynolds of Homer and Marsha Lowrey and husband, Alton of Homer; two step-daughters, Joyce Teat of Prescott Valley, Arizona and Dorothy Dean Richardson of Eufaula, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Roddy Puckett, Bruce Puckett, Karen White, Frank Teat, Jr., Pam Teat, Debbie Craton, Cherie Simpson, Charles Hollenshead and Mike Hollenshead; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Tanner, Jimmy Brown, Jim Wasson, Troy Parish, Darrell Bertrand and Marty Lowrey.

For friends considering memorials honoring Mrs. Bertrand, her family suggests First Baptist Church of Homer or Southern Christian Children's Home.
