The Minden Crimson Tide traveled to Monroe Friday night to take on the #1 seeded Neville Tigers in their second round playoff game and found out why the Tigers are the top seed in 4A. Neville dominated the game on both sides of the ball, grinding out over 300 yards on the ground and holding the Tide to only 55 yards total in the first half. The Tigers scored five times in the first half alone, leading to a dominating 44-22 Neville win.
Minden was able to move the ball some against the bigger and faster Neville defense. Quarterback Turner Francis was able to complete five of his first six passes, mixing them up between Javion Johnson, Coltan Haynes, and Derek Herrington. However, Neville was able to keep the gains from the passes to a very minimum, while holding the Tide's rushing game to negative yardage.
After the game had been decided, both teams started substituting, and the Tide began to move the ball, scoring three times to make the score more respectable.
With a little over three minutes left in the third quarter, Minden got possession at their own 35 after a Neville kick traveled out of bounds.
After a Cortavious Rice run up the middle for two yards, new quarterback Ronald Richard hit Haynes for five yards. On third down, Richard rolled left and found Johnson all alone. Johnson then completed the play by outrunning the Tiger defense to the end zone to avoid the shutout. Richard added the two point conversion.
The Tide's next possession also began at the 35, and again, Rice started the drive with a run up the middle, this time for a yard. Richard lost four on second down, but on third and long, he passed to Rice for nine yards. On fourth and four, Richard hit Jared Johnson on the sideline, and Johnson made a beautiful run downfield for 33 yards. The Richard to Johnson combination then finished off the drive with a 26 yard touchdown pass and catch. This time Rice added the conversion.
Richard continued his hot hand on the next drive, moving the Tide 69 yards in four plays. Marshal Frye got in on the action, making a great catch on first down for ten yards. Jared Johnson continued the drive with a 16 yard grab from Richard, and Herrington added a give yarder to put Minden into Tiger territory. Richard then made a fantastic run through the Tiger defense, scoring from 38 yards out to give the Tide its final score of the night and the season.
