The new Awards Programs for the LHSAA

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association distributes more than 5,000 awards each year to outstanding high school student-athletes.

In past years, each individual of the first and second place teams at state championships in all 25 sanctioned sports was given a certificate suitable for framing. This year, each individual on the teams will be given a gold or silver medal. That means that approximately 3,800 medals will be awarded to student-athletes.

The LHSAA will give out a total of 2,216 individual medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers for student-athletes participating in bowling, cross country, golf, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, wrestling, and indoor and outdoor track and field.

In addition, the LHSAA will unveil a newly designed state championship trophy. Due to difficulty in securing the rising costs of proper sports figurines, the Executive Committee authorized the LHSAA Administration to secure a new trophy design. There will be 109 first place trophies and 109 runner-up trophies awarded. The organization is very proud of the new design and looks forward to presenting the trophies to our state champions.

State Farm Insurance is the financial sponsor of all LHSAA state championship trophies and medals. The organization is greatly appreciative of State Farm's involvement in high school athletics. Agents from around the state are given the opportunity to hand out state championship trophies at our events.

Besides state championships, the LHSAA also recognizes outstanding participants in all team sports. The outstanding participants are selected by the working media with the exception of wrestling, which is selected by the participating wrestling coaches. There are a total of 66 awards to be presented. Outstanding participants will be listed once the state championships have been completed.

Also new for this year is the addition of Gold Star Trophies to the LHSAA team. The company's trophy is the new official LHSAA trophy and awards provider. LHSAA Director of Marketing Mitch Small explains, "We are very excited about our partnership with Gold Star Trophies and their desire to be involved in creating memories of a lifetime for high school athletes across the state."

Gold Star Trophies, a family-owned and operated business, has provided top quality products throughout the state since 1973. The company offers a full line of products and a well-trained staff to provide the best services to our schools and student-athletes.
