Trading cash for freedom

beeneCrime doesn’t pay, but sometimes criminals do – if they think it will keep them out of jail.

Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested Gregory Wade Beene, 35, of Casady Lane in Minden on two counts of public bribery after he tried to pay to stay out of jail.

Det. Sgt. T.D. Kemp, Jr. said Beene attempted to pay off people in exchange for dropping charges against him.

“These weren’t public officials,” Kemp said. “They are individuals who filed charges against him for various crimes.
He offered them money to drop the charges.”

Kemp said a warrant was issued against Beene, “which got him into jail. Previous charges that were dropped will now be brought back up again,” he said.

Beene was incarcerated at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
